Placement at a Retrofit Construction Company
Duration: 2 weeks

Environmental Awareness
This one day interactive course has been developed for site supervisors/managers with the aim of providing candidates with an introduction to environmental issues on construction sites.
It is designed to meet the basic environmental knowledge that the sub-contract chain are required to prove to major contractors, and covers the environmental aspects of the new HS&E touch screen test. The course will bring the candidates environmental and sustainability knowledge up to date by giving a thorough overview of the subject, relevant legislation and industry best practice.
It will enable them to identify, control and minimise the environmental impacts of their work and where possible identify environmental improvement opportunities.
Certification for this course is valid for 5 years. To remain certified in this area, you will need to retake the course before the expiry date.

Better safe than sorry! Explore health and safety related training specific to the construction industry in York.

Retrofitting
Retrofitting opportunities for new AND experienced workers who want to find future employment within the construction industry in York.
- Level 3 Award in Air Source Heat Pump Systems (non-refrigerant Circuits)
This qualification is for those learners currently employed in the plumbing and domestic heating industry. Learners should have a minimum NVQ Level 2/3 qualification in plumbing or conventional heating engineering, or a demonstrable number of years of relevant experience.
- Level 5 Retrofit Coordination and Risk Management
Learners must hold a Level 3 Certificate/Diploma in Domestic Energy Assessment. Proof of this will be required upon registration This qualification is relevant for those who have experience of working in construction or the built environment for a minimum of 2 years within the past 3 years, proof of this is required via a CV or employer’s testimony/letter.

Construction Vehicles
Explore vehicle operator courses for new AND experienced drivers who want to find future employment within the construction industry in York.
These training opportunities will support you in operating construction plant and machinery on live construction sites.
- 360 Excavator Course
A 360 excavator is a heavy construction machine that consists of a boom, dipper, bucket and cab on a rotating platform — thus the 360 in the “360 excavator” — on a wheeled or tracked undercarriage. These machines have a vast number of applications in construction, from shifting materials to digging trenches and foundations. 360 excavator operators in the UK earn on average £32,000.

- Telehandler Course
A telehandler is a lifting machine that uses a telescopic boom that can be fitted with various lifting attachment ranging from pallet forks to buckets and winches. Pallet forks are the most common attachment. Telehandler jobs in the UK pay on average £28,000.

- Forward Dumper
All kinds of dumper trucks are frequently used in construction, and are crucial especially in larger-scale building projects. Various types of a dumper include a rigid dumper truck, an articulated dumper, a tracked dumper and a mini dumper.
Dumper driver jobs in the UK pay between £25,000 and £35,000.
- Roller
A ride-on road roller is a heavy vehicle, used to compact gravel, concrete, bitumen and soil when building roads and building foundations.
Roller driver jobs in the UK pay about £33,000 – £40,000 on average.
CSCS Cards
A CSCS Green Card, or Construction Skills Certification Scheme Green Card, demonstrates that you have the required training and knowledge to work safely on construction sites in the UK:
It’s an entry-level qualification for manual labor jobs
- It shows that you have the health and safety knowledge needed for construction sites
- It’s valid for five years
- It can help you advance your career in construction
- It helps employers comply with health and safety regulations
- It’s not a legal requirement, but it can have many advantages
To get a CSCS Green Card, you must complete the CSCS Green Card course and pass the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Test. The HSE Test is a 50-question multiple choice test that covers health and safety knowledge and case studies.
The learners will receive a Level 1 Certificate in Health and Safety and a Green Labourer CSCS card.

A design-focused introduction to low energy builds.
Passive Houses make efficient use of the sun, internal heat sources and heat recovery, rendering conventional heating systems unnecessary throughout even the coldest of winters. During warmer months, Passive Houses make use of passive cooling techniques such as strategic shading to keep comfortably cool.
